Both shots are very good, but I love the first one, especially with the drop coming from his chin.

Critique and advice are always appreciated, even when it's brutally honest.

That droplet might be venom... Sometimes they'll produce venom for more than a dozen strikes, before starting to dry up...

Nice shots...

Which lens was this with?

Thanks for looking.
It's a water drop.
I was reaching under a bush to move a hose, when I saw the snake.
Went and got my 5D with the 70-200L f/4 IS lens.
Didn't notice the drops until I opened the images on the computer.

This most recent pic posted is awesome... The drama and suspense is built right into the dark background...

You were pretty close to it with the 70-200 IS... The water provides a potential hunting ground for thirsty critters...Real nice shots...

EDIT: However, that droplet does look a bit thick (and syrupy) to be just water... Spooky, huh? Good job.

it is not venom. venom does not come out like drool.

the snake appears to have taken a big gulp of water and hasn't quite got it all down.

great shot! thank you for shooting it w/ a camera and not a gun.

Be careful reaching for hoses these days - story on Phoenix TV last night said the bite potency of the rattlers has increased tremedously in the past few years. Several people doing gardening in the Scotsdale area have been bitten this year already
