Good shots. Might play around with the white balance if you shot in raw. The water in swim shots likes to play with the WB. You didn't say anything about equipment and there is no exif. Looks like an indoor pool with a lot of daylight coming in from behind the swimmer.

A bunch of stuff.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, these were shot indoors with the window light coming in from behind. I used my 20D with 85 f/1.8 lens and relied on the camera's flip-up built-in flash since I was able to get relatively close to the subject. 1/250 sec and f/2.8 or f/3.2...

For swimming, you usually are not allowed to shoot with a flash. But i am not sure how the rules are for the younger ones. I would have tried to go to the other side of the pool where they would be swimming toward the light and you so you could have shot in available light.

Regardless of age, each swim meet has its own rules which I always inquire before shooting. Typically, flash is allowed except during the start and for diving events for club meets and K-12. Don't know about college meets, though, as I have no experience with them. Frankly, I don't like using flash for swimming, but then I don't like to push my iso to 3200 with the shutter speed below 1/200sec, either.

Ya, if the lighting is that bad i can see why you would use it. I very well could be wrong with th no flash rule though for K-12. The only swimming I shoot is Big 12 stuff. but regardless you did a great job getting his expressions!
