Hi all, at the end of this month My teacher has their band gig and I'm invited to go but I want to be able to go and use my Canon 400D in a semi dark bar. and I don't have a nice flash like the most of you do.

So can you give me a setup for the kit lens, and or the sigma 70-300 setup using no flash? or using the stock flash that comes with it?

Read the tutorial then you won't need my advice. I don't use tripods much, they get in the way, I only use them as light stands.

I've been reading some of it. And I'm surprised it said to bring your best zoom. but ti didn't say anything about the bar being a normal sized bar about the the size of a small food store.

Can you try a few test shots on an evening before the event? If their light is excessively moody, maybe they'll turn it up a bit for you?
I wouldn't use flash unless you absolutely had to. Try wide open at ISO 1600 first. It really isn't as noisy as you might think:

Tripod or no tripod?

I think they're a PITA in that situation, but you can get some interesting blur shots if you're willing to throw 30 away for every good one you get. ;)
