"Magnesium alloy body with stainless steel and polycarbonate chassis."

The above quote is from Rob Galbraith's site and his review of the 20d.

Isn't that the same material the 1d Mark II is made of? Does the 20d have any weather sealing around its buttons, etc?

I recently used it in a light mist and the lens and camera were getting covered in mist with no ill effects. Am I advised not to do this in the future?

No, the 20D is not weather sealed.

If you submerge the 1D cameras into a bucket of water, will that be okay?

I don't think the owner will think it's ok.

Seriously, I believe if a weather-sealed L lens with the gasketed lens mount is attached, then it's supposed to be quite resistant. I doubt Canon will go so far as to claim it's water-proof. I have read a story from someone claiming they saw a pro who dropped his camera into a big puddle, fished it out, wiped the front element and went on shooting.

With a sealed lens and a filter on the lens, yes. But, I am not experimenting with my camera. The story I heard is there was a guy shooting on a raft and he dropped the camera into the stream. Picked it out of the water immediately and kept shooting.

That being said, the 1-series cameras are not designed to be underwater cameras. However, they will perform well and without a hitch in a heavy downpour.

If I take a 20D out in a light rain or sprinkle is it going to be OK? Is there any like cover I can get for the camera or the lense?

A light sprinkle on most cameras is fine, but I would not take one of these consumer camera's (D Series) out on a rainy day.

L lenses are perfectly suited for 1 series cameras as you get a full weather sealed system. However you can put an L to good use on a D series as well. just cover the body with a clear and sealed bag and have the lens sticking out.

I used my films out(not weather sealed) on a very moist day at Niagara Falls a couple months back and was I was soaked from the mist but the camera survived. There was a lot more mist then the usual. I would not risk putting the dSLRs through that though.

I've got a nice raincover (and pretty cheap) that's made by Fotosharp.
