What does it mean when those pieces from the top of the posts go flying like that? I don't know the game.

It appears that he missed the ball and the ball hit the sticks?

For me it looks like he hit the ball, it hit the sticks and bounced backward and from his expression it does not look like that was a good thing.

LOL, our cricket obviously doesn't cross the big pond very well :)

I suppose it's as alien and complex to you, as Baseball and American football is to us.

Yes, if the ball hits the sticks (stumps) then he's out, and he uses his bat to prevent the ball hitting the stumps, and also to strike the ball some distance so he can get runs (this bit is vaguely like baseball)

Alien would be a good way to describe my understanding of cricket. :-)

After seeing so many cool shots on here I looked it up to learn more about it. I understand the basics now but have no real grasp on the numerous defensive positions and strategy. I obviously did not retain terminology very well either. :-) I would love to see it sometime to better understand it but for now will reread wikipedia.

Thanks for the info and have a good day.

Oh, very nice pics as well.

I think he would have had a better chance of hitting the ball if he would have been looking at it instead of you in the first one. I can't imagine why athletes do that. I've noticed a number of shots like this, here and in other forums, where the athlete should be concentrating on the ball and is staring at the camera.

Like many, I don't understand the game at all but I will say that images look very nice. Sharp and very nicely exposed in the whites.

Fantastic series, caught the action and emotion really well.

Just as a side discussion, do you have any issues in focusing the 120-300 with the 1.4tc?

I'm not so sure he was watching the ball! And he looks like he stepped away a fair bit too!

Nice captures Les, thanks for sharing, looks like a nice set up!
