From landscape to tight macro - there are some amazing images here. You guys really have got me thinking that my old P&S days were the best.

I think I may be getting one of these :lol:

the only thing with the G9 is noise...it's not easy to majorly manipulate a photo in photoshop because there is noise issues. However, I just assume that I won't be doing effect shots with it unless I'm ready to do major NR. Otherwise I've got no complaints about it at all. (wish it had a slightly longer zoom but that's not an issue for the most part...if it was my only camera, it would be an issue I guess)

Don't forget the Safety Zoom option with the G9;

thanks Dennis. I prefer optical zoom. The digital zoom is really the same as cropping a photo in post processing and I'd rather control the IQ by cropping it myself. But thanks again :)

Not sure this will work for everyone here, you might have to open a NYT account to enjoy this clip about a photojournalist capturing nature's adaptation to city living. Fun stuff and we all have been there in our own way:

Yikes!!! You will have to do some drilling to get to the segment. Click on channels and NY region, LENS and you should be off and going. There are several clips!!!

I hope you get to enjoy.

these are a couple of my all time favorite G9 shots...I'd been hauling my big camera with a long lens and it was too hot to haul 2 heavy cameras so I grabbed the G9 for my WA (having not really tested it out before this) and hoped for the best. Honestly I was so pleased with the shots from this trip that it sealed itself a place in the gearbag.

the first one looks like a movie set but it's not...just an old car in the middle of the desert

Maybe is not righ place but this thred is most visited and I have one question as an amateur recently hooked on shooting photos is it possible to shoot object that is in front of us and object far away and get sharp image of both of them as space in between is blurred(without using editing software!)...?
Thanks and sorry if this sounds too stupid :)and get something just opposite to this below...

You will need to use a smaller aperture laskez :) If there's enough light you can do this without a tripod. If it's quite dark you will need to use a tripod, as using a smaller aperture lets less light through and hence requires a slower shutter speed.

Rotate the mode dial on the G9 to 'Av' (Aperture Value mode), and then rotate the dial on the back of the camera clockwise until you reach the largest aperture value (probably F8.0 – the larger the number the smaller the aperture).

The aperture range on the G9 is quite limiting ... on most professional lenses you can get to at least F20, sometimes F30 and higher for a very long depth-of-field.

Hope that helps :) See if that has the effect you were desiring!
