Perhaps Nikon ought to make a Nikonos RS Digital.

But then again I suppose it would be more expensive than buying a housing so there's really no point.

if you are that worried about the camera, just use a waterproof chassis. I think those are about 1000-2500 depending on the body, lens and accessories that you want.
