Yes Sean, some more. My current project manager has become a pain in my ass.

He called me (about a month in advance) to ask if I was interested in some work over a 3 day weekend so I was happy to providing he could email or facebook me the details prior to the event so I could arrange the gear I needed.

Up until the weekend he has discussed, NOTHING. Phone went to voicemail and no reply to text. I NOW get call after call to which I ignored of him begging for the photos of the night below as he has a meeting with the client in a few days.

I was so tempted to just not hand them over and take them as payback for the work I have missed I think I will take the noble route and find work freelance.

good for him... why is everyone else on this thread using wide aps and not producing this level of work? just a general question rather than arguing or anything .

Shutter speed, ISO, sensor format, venue ambient light?

I managed a similar result at a FHM Hight Street Honeys event last year:

And I agree... wide aps for the ambient stuff without a shadow of doubt... but for group shots its unnecessary for a lot of the stuff we appear to do i thinkz

I think you have gotten completely the wrong end of the stick. What you said implied that there was no use other than ambient light for large apertures. You can always compensate the ambient light in ISO and/or shutter speed. But DOF and bokeh you cannot. Well technically there is Photoshop. Anyway. what I was trying to say is that you don't really need anything specifically other than a functioning camera for photography. But everything helps. Do you really need a tripod for landscape? No. Do you need really IS for hand-held lowlight? No. However, either expends your creative possibilities. And by showing Marc's photos I was just trying to show the fruits of utilising such possibilities.

As for photos... Here are some of my club related galleries:

Total rookie to this stuff. I love how the skin tones look on your photos yap'in. Can you just simply break down what lens/flash you are using? Maybe a little insider tip in terms of how to achieve similar shots for a rookie like me?

First off, awesome shots!!! Very interested in getting into this scene here in Los Angeles...

Question, aside from being hired by the venue or promotioner, do you ever have clubbers just ask to purchase pictures taken? and if so, how do go about showing these?..post them on your website, just hand them a biz card?

Again, this sounds fun, I am a sports photographer who would like to expand a little...

A couple of clubs that I've been to in my life have had poles ... and they seem to be girl magnets where the girls always use them to squat down in tiny dresses where they then pretend to be embarrassed by their exposure. What's that about?

I can vouch for that LOL

Take this shot

I uploaded it as usual and the next thing I get is an email from one of the dancers requesting me to remove the photograph because she 'looked like a slut'... of course I removed the pic, however I have plenty more that are ffaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar worse in my collection. Personally I didn't think the photograph had any connotations of sluttyness to be honest. Opinions? (oh and C&C if you'd like to :D )

But yeah I do wonder sometimes. The poll base is quite high... 'eyes meet thighs' sort of level

As for the picture I would crop off the right hand side but totally agree it seems very tame! As for the girls, the one in pants doesn't belong there. As for girls in general, I think they are programmed to try to draw sexual attention to themselves (one might even say "act slutty") particularly after a few drinks. I think it is quite normal and fun for both the participants and observers ... and I have a daughter. And while there are clearly girls who seem to have a natural ability to be sexy/erotic I have found that they generally have as good character and judgment as the plain Janes, they just don't have big hangups about having fun and letting go.

So where are these "other" pole dancing pictures?

You don't think the offset works at all? maybe a bit extreme perhaps? I'll give the crop a whiz and see how it comes out. Thanks (once again!) Dwight :D

I have to agree although I'm dubious about the natural sexy/erotic... English lasses have limited class from what I've seen to tell you the truth - I took some pictures for a 'Ladies Night' recently... women are savages. FACT.

The pole shots aren't really my thing (more to do with my (lack of) photographic technique more than anything)... Firstly I'm shooting upwards and try as I may, regardless of whether I'm shooting a slim or largish woman the results tend to give the appears of a H U G E thigh/backside area, double/triple chin (looking down) and narrow beady eyes (again from looking down) - so I really avoid it purely because the chosen subject will have a mini fit at me and I'll end up having to delete it lol :D

In addition I really struggle to get anything I'd consider acceptable from them as well. Lots of movement and usually spot lighting on the pole give me little room for flexability... I guess shoot high iso to crank the shutter down (minimise motion blur) and maintain ambience. Then flash to freeze as usual? Do you have any pics from poles at all Dwight? Any help would be gratefully appreciated :D

Really any pole stuff for me is shot unflashed... more 'arty' rather than subject orientated.

Hehehe, no, no pole shots ... the only ones I had were so bad that I trashed them ... you can see one of the poles on the left of this shot where my band was playing in a very small local "club" (bar with a small dance floor and no lighting.)

I tend to be a "spray and pray" shooter in these things ... if you take enough images with enough variety you will get some good stuff. As for wimmen wanting it removed, that is also part of the fairer sex's psychology ... they hardly ever like the way they look no matter how luscious. And I can't imagine that your lassies are any less classy than ours ... I really believe it is a matter of economic class which tends to dictate acceptable behavior ... a rich girl can afford to be aloof and reserved but a poor girl needs to put it all out there in the hopes of attracting suitable men.

nice to see the pole being put to good use there!

totally agree... my keeper percentage for most nights is around 30% (it's getting higher which is good news for me)... I work at a nightclub in the county of Surrey which is typically very affluent... but the contrast as you mention is clearly evident when im bouncing around taking shots.
