ya har. although MOS is particularly wide. hence the Tokina fisheye... 10mm on that is actually about 9.4mm or something where as 10mm rectilinear is nearer 10mm...

I know this is not a technical thread, but a fish-eye lens has a completely different design from a rectilinear lens, which explains the difference in angular field. A 9.4mm rectilinear would only be a little wider than a 10.0mm, whereas on a crop camera the rectilinear 10mm has about 108 degrees and the fish-eye almost 180 degrees. The central part of the image is the same size for both, but angles are reproduced progressively differently as you go out towards the edges.

Yep that's what I found out after a bit of research through here... I was surprised by the difference in the FOV on a 10mm fishy and a 10mm rectilinear. cool stuff :D

Usually hired by either the promotion of the evening or the venue itself. Be confident and you can get away with almost anything. Most people see you point at them strike a pose, and the ladies love it and it sometimes turns into a bit of a miniature shoot. Other times you rather let the dancers strutt their thing and just fire away without interrupting them.

How exactly did you get hired by the promoters or the venue?

I went out on Saturday night and after being inspired by various nightclub threads at the moment and it being requested by my gf's as it was her birthday I decided to take the DSLR with me!

Lets have your thoughts...

Has anyone with a 400D experienced any problems with it in a hot nightclub?

I did Auto Contrast and messing with levels slightly, and smooth gradient applied during resize to minimise grain - but I've always found if you nail the exposure then grain is never a problem.

The key thing is nothing on the image was selectively manipulated.

Very good stuff man :D

First one appeals to me quite a bit as you've exposed suitably for the background and let the colours through - not sure about the composition but that is a trivial matter. At least the foreground and background are nicely exposed.

also good to see you're mixing settings around to suit the lighting conditions.

nice work

Now I realised why my photos do not have the same results of vivid colours as some of you guys...I dont shoot in those kinds of places.

But heres some snapshots from my mates birthday last night. Not bothered processing these since they will go onto facebook. Light fall off was pretty bad at times, im going back to a Stofen Omnibounce.

Love the shots!

What type of diffuser were you using dude? It wasn't that daft thing that looks like Area 51 have gone to town on the flash head? (Looks like a UFO if you're wondering what on earth I'm waffling on about)

Thanks man.

No diffuser, 580EX II bounced straight up without the bounce card. Slightly pushed forward at times, think at 75 degrees. Im not too happy with the light fall off which could be due to that, either way, down to the user not the equipment. Stofen Omnibounce was a nice addition to the 430EX and think I might get one for my 580EX II. Better do it soon before I have to head to Germany. No slip ups then.

Was a nice bar though last night. Went outside for a little while and as going back in, the bouncers looked real interested. One was looking for a Nikon, the 5D changed his mind in an instant!

Really like them... they have that kind of 'classy' look to them... the sort of thing posh bars would like for marketing I could imagine.

durrrrrrr on my part... of course they were bounced  my 580 is gathering dust as I don't have a Stof for it yet either also I've found it a total pig to get the exposure right from it... as you say User issues not the equipment.

fun times. What's going down in Germany dude?

Yeah, I like the simple look. Worked well in that bar.

The 580EX II was doing the same with me. Because I didn't have a Stofen for it, I just kept using my 430EX but I thought since im going to field test, I might as well give it a try.

I actually just left the ETTL on and set it to -1/3 and it sang all night.

I did a job as photographer for the Kinetic Groove launch party (on my portfolio) and since I work with the record label owner so as he is flying out for a night DJ'ing at a club out in Germany and im going as his photographer. The club owner where we are going also loved my work and have asked me to cover the whole club. Fly out on Friday evening, party and then fly back Saturday evening. 20 hours and im back. :)
