Apparently, it does not AF properly with Nikon or Pentax lenses. ;)

Seriously, I have never read or heard any stories like that. Even the usual 3rd party lenses from Sigma, Tamron and Tokina can be expected to perform reasonably well, within their normal limitations. I have stuck various lenses of various brands on mine, mostly borrowed, and it has always performed.

No autofocus problems with any of my collection of several lenses over the years! I feel my 40D autofocuses better than any of my previously owned cameras.

My 40D won't auto focus with my old manual focus Canon lenses, with again they didn't auto focus with the AE-1 they were use with either.:)

Suggestions welcome.

The Canon 40D will auto focus with all of Canons EF and EF-S lens.

I think you have it confused with Nikons D40 which will not auto focus with all of Nikons AF lens.

All of the XXD cameras won't focus with a max. aperture of 8.0 or smaller.

So that means no 1.4x or 2x teleconverters with the 100-400, or no 2x with the 300, 400, & 500 f/4.

But the 1D's have no problem with the 500mm f/4 & 2x.

the 40D has a seriously fast AF system. It will obliterate my 30D AF in low light.
