My daughters equine event

Here is a shot from my daughters horse show a couple weeks ago. The sun was setting fast so I didn't get any worth posting from her barrel racing because it got too dark. I thought this one was not too bad. C&C are welcome and appreciated. Thanks.

I like it. .. even with the light challanges that you were facing.. you still got the shot. I think it's refreshing to see a tighter shot that's more of a "race portrait " than the standard race shots. (albiet, yes, I think every participant wants one of those as well).. but I love the expression on your daughter's face!! It's priceless!

Because that 'dusk' light can be kind of flat, I played around with your photo a little bit in PS. Adjusted the levels, bumped up the saturation, color corrected that blue light and sharpened it a little bit. .. oh.. and cropped it in a 5X7 format.

(oh.. thought I'd mention that your daughter's pink "bling bling' breast collar is too cute! LOL)

Thanks so much for the kind words and especially the work you did. The image was straight out of the camera. My weakness is definitely in PP. Thanks for taking the time to do that.

I do of course have the standard shots of her coming of the 2nd barrel and weaving in between poles, but this was as she was coming across the timer. I just like how it turned out, but then again with me, it seems those are usually the keepers. The ones I try to frame and get just right are usually, just "ok".

Ok John.. sooner or later you're going to have to bite the bullet and get warm and fuzzy with your Photoshop program. LOL There are some good books out there. ... not to mention, I found a ton of interesting little tutorials on you-tube. (none that show horses.. but hey, we learn to adapt!)

Oh.. I forgot to mention in the PM. ... Never Ever change your original! .. Make a copy first if you're going to edit it.

Thanks for the comment, as I said, it was a crop. I should and will re-crop it to include her foot. Thanks for pointing that out, makes good sense.

there was like a generic post on cropping somewhere in the forum...

more often than not, if limbs have to be cropped, it's best to do it at the joints. it looks less weird...

if you have more of the back end of the horse, try to include it till like the tail, the limbs of the horse in the current crop that you have is pretty acceptable. IMHO

Sorry that crop don't do it at all for me. I would have proffered to see much more of the horse and rider specially in this type of events.

It's slightly soft and the horizon is crooked.

In barrel racing it's nice to see the action around the barrel or on the way to it. Now one have to guess what type of event it is.
