I was at a local minor league baseball game and thought I would test out the Mark III at 6400 ISO in real world situations. I was pleased with the results:

Very nice.

First time I saw prints at ISO3200 taken by 1dmk3, I was shocked.

Who said only the D3 is capable of ISO 6400?

They look great with lots of detail.

It's not, but I dont know of any other cameras that can take a 12,800, or a 25,600 shot like the D3;)

Great pics, I've been to many Rough Rider games.

Wow! Awesome shots. Makes me wish I could afford a 1D Mark III, but my "stimulus" check will only cover a 40D.

Great pics!

Sydor, do you have any at 3200 too? And can you post a 100% crop at 3200 and 6400. I'm shooting more night games now, living at 3200 ISO. I'd love to see what advantage the MkIII would give me in that area.

Thanks!

Here are some shots at 3200, I don't have any 100% crops right now since it is almost 1 am and I have to get some sleep before work. ;)

god, makes me want to just sell the mkIIn and grab a mkIII. I'm so close I should just fork over an extra grand for one... Just wish the mkIII's had the beautiful 640x480 3" LCD from the D300/D3 instead of the current ones. If they had that, I'd be sold.

Do the D300/D3 have ISO 50 capabilities? I know you have to extend nikons from ISO 200 to 100.

You won't know until you see how the lighting is and what shutter speeds you can get at ISO 3200.

Just make sure that you do not under expose any 6400 ISO shots because if you have to push the exposure in post, then the noise will be much worse.

I made a 18x12 print of this shot and I was very pleased with the quality (ISO 3200):

Got time for any 100% crops now? I'd sure be interested in what kind of detail you're getting in the faces at 3200 & 6400.
