You won't know until you see how the lighting is and what shutter speeds you can get at ISO 3200.

Just make sure that you do not under expose any 6400 ISO shots because if you have to push the exposure in post, then the noise will be much worse.

I made a 18x12 print of this shot and I was very pleased with the quality (ISO 3200):

QUOTED IMAGE

Just i don't want to go under 1/500 or 1/640, sometimes 1/640 is not fast enough to freeze few actions so i can't be sure that 1/400 or slower will do fine for me, so i will try to be minimum 1/640 even to crank that ISO to the highest.
I will start with 500 as the match will begin in the evening before the sunset about 40 minutes, then the second half will be under the field light which i can't trust it will be enough

Got time for any 100% crops now? I'd sure be interested in what kind of detail you're getting in the faces at 3200 & 6400.

I'm not a big fan of "100% cops" because no one prints 100% crops with no processing, but you asked. At 200mm with poor light, there isn't too much chance of small detail, but here are some 100% crops:

3200 @ 200mm f/3.2:

Only processing was to convert from RAW via ACR, then cropped and saved. No NR was used during the conversion or processing.

Thanks! I agree with ya, but I really wanted to be able to compare them against what I'm seeing on an equal footing, and once you resize them, I can't do that. From what you've got here, the MkIII looks to be about 1.5 to 2 stops better than my 40D in this same type of situation. That would be HUGE for me. Your 6400 shot looks pretty close to my 1600 shots under the lights. Noise is somewhere between 1600 & 3200, but the detail is definitely as good or better than my 1600 shots. Since I live at 3200 for night games, that would help a LOT.

Again, Thanks!

No problem, glad I could help you spend more money. ;)

The Mark III is really a great camera, worth every cent.
