I shoot baseball mainly and was wondering what some of you who use Smugmug or other sites price your baseball 4x6's at? And if you want to share 5x7 and 8x10 that would be great too.

How about starting with link to your own site.

I don't sell yet but I have seen anything from little over $1 to say $10 for single 4x6.

4x6 $4.95
5x7 $7.95
8x10 $14.95

I think my prices are low. Probably time for an inflation adjustment.

www.youthsportsphoto.net (external link). I set my prices at $3 for 4x6,$7 for 5x7, and $14 for 8x10.

The reason I was asking is I noticed in my control panel that I have had 11,000 image views of medium size images and 1,900 views of large size images.

But for the past month it has generated a little over a couple of hundred dollars Net. I am not going to say I am the best sports photographer but I think my shots are worthy of more than what they are generating compared to the image views.

One thing I have not done and maybe I should. I haven't set aside the time to crop photos prior to posting. I have just let the purchaser decide their crop.

I am open to anyone's suggestions. If you have time take a look at some of the pictures to get an idea of my overall shooting ability and critique. Is the site easy to navigate around? I have tried to get a good amount of closeups as well as action shots. Are the prices fair?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for positing the link to your site. I haven't checked it out but your prices for 4x6 seem less to me. Keep 4x6 close to 5x7 price.

I do customize some per event but I usually get $6-4x6 $9-5x7 $15-8x10 for 'ball'sports. Double those for 'horse' sports. But I don't use SmugMug.

I get 4X6 $5, 5X7 $10, 8x10 $15.

I do crop many of my photos before upload to highlight the player. I use Exposure Manager so I control the final crop.

As for your site - it's clean. You've got the safety shots (hitting, pitching) and some action. Try shooting some of the between innings warm up to grab some additional action. Mom and dad like to see junior with the ball rolling into his glove or throwing across the diamond! Face and the ball 0 that's what sells.

Remember the 3 click rule. Mom/Dad should be able to find their photos with a max of three mouse clicks.

How are you marketing? Do all the players and coaches know how to find your site? Do you offer the league an "incentive" to help get the word out?

I think you should crop your pictures.
You must present the best posable pictures.

Your prices are too low but I think the only way you could raise them is to do so at the beginning of the next school year. I only offer 4x6 as a package of 2 for $8.00, same print. My 5x7 are $10.00 and I stopped offering 8x10. and now offer an 8x12 for slightly more than the 8x10 was. I had only sold one 8x10 but have had more orders for the 8x12 and no one has asked were to find frames for them. 5x7 are my best seller.

You might want to remove the Exposure Manager link on your pages. If anyone clicks on it they can find out your costs. When parents ask who I use for a lab because they want to use them, I tell them that it's a pro lab which only works with professionals. the parents accept this. When they ask for the digital file, I tell them that I work on a highly calibrated system between my PC and Lab,and that the prints will not print out properly elsewhere, therefore I cannot offer the digital image. That has also been accepted without complaint from parents...
and it reinforces that I'm a pro

I just signed up for the Smugmug account and will be charging. I find that $15 for the 8x10 is standard. I don't know about the 4x6. I think $6 is too high for me. So I may go $3 or less. But I have no competition. This is for charity and to pay my expenses.

I use photobiz... prices for hosting start at $25 a month and I love the service!

4x6-$4
5x7- $7
8x10- $10
Larger prints are much more as they are really a specialty item

Here is my thinking... Most families have a budget they can spend on images. They will spend that budeget on good pictures regardless of your prices.

Lets say the budget is $80...

They buy 1-8x10's, 4-5x7's, 13-4x6's for a total of $83 at my price

They buy 1 -8x10 ($20) 2-5x7($30) 4-4x6($28 ) for a total of $78 (At a higher price for prints)

Now my cost is $10 for a profit of $73 = 83%

At the higher price the cost is $5 for a profit of $73 = 93%

I figure the difference in my profit is well worth the repeat business and recomendations I get for offering a great service at a resonable price. I dont even have to advertise and I am completly booked!

JMO- Also this is considering events and sports only. My prices for portrait sessions and weddings are higher!
