I'm working on a promotional poster for a Table Tennis news website than I'm also photographing for. Yesterday I met up with a tt-player to shoot some pics with flash because the regular competition shots (no flash) weren't good enough qua sharpness, lighting etc. Using the shots of that shoot I came up with the following poster.
I like the general idea, but I'd like to hear your critique.
The only things I'm not too fond about is the left part around his head, I just can't get it right with the eraser tool (so the blurred background layer becomes visible) and I've tried just about everything I can do.
I'd also like a few tips on how to get the reflection of the text near the bottom more realistic.

Thanks!

i like it, i feel that it conveys the fast paced action of TT very well.

got one thing though, about the reflection.

for the reflected "zich maar" line, move it down a little to create some space and also mask it out more... somewhat like the "Voor al" line, but even less reflected text showing,

reflected text should be very very sublime, so much to the extent that you're wondering if it's there or if it's not.

Also, there seems to be enough space in the bottom for the image to be lowered so that the head doesn't cover up the text.

I like it, but isnt the blur going the wrong way? Or is he really backing up? I like the blur and the reflection to the text as well!

I agree as well that the guy can be lowered a bit. There is too much room at the bottom.

I love designing stuff like this!

It looks good :)

My only comments ...

The mirrored text layers - delete the "Voor al het ..." one all together then drop the opacity of the "zich maar ..." one. It should be very "sublime" as Aaagogo said.

[you'd probably then need to drop the "Voor ..." text down a bit too]

The blurred player - duplicate this layer a few times and have them progressively come out from behind the "unblurred" player. Drop the opacity progressively also and see what it looks like.

cheers

Haha, Sorry it's in Dutch.

Okay guys, thanks for the help. I'm gonna edit the reflection a bit, see if I can get it a bit more "sublime":)
I'll also lower the upper part a bit, but I still want the head to be slightly infront of the TTNIEUWS.NL text...looks kinda cool if you ask me

I'll post an update later

I think if i was a standard consumer the poster looks very professional to me.

However, as a forum user looking for thing that may be worht changing, i also have to agree with the refelective text, I'd make bothe lines the same ie both a simple vertical flip and I'd also raise the opacity on the reflection, from memory I'm usually around the 30%-40% area.

It'a a nice looking poster though!

Okay here's the final version I think.
Any tips on how to sharpen the tt-player at full resolution (for print)?

looking at it again, i realise why I suggest the image to be lowered, it's because of the line that looks like it's running into and then out of his head. looks weird... and the space in the bottom too.

i like the reflection of "voor al", the opacity and gradient it's at now

i suggest lowering the reflected "zich maar" a little away downwards from the upright text

since there are 2 lines of text and reflection usually only works for 1 line text, i suggest using the opacity and gradient level for "Voor al" on the reflected text of "zich maar".

Looks great to me, however I also can't figure out the words either. I retyped it into spell checker and the CPU started to smoke. The second one looks better with the touch up-removal of the reflective letters.
