BG-E3 battery grip question vs. Opteka

Hi,

I have a quick question for people with the BG-E3 battery grip. In the battery tray for using the NB-2LH batteries, does the tray have all three contacts that connect to the battery for at least one of the batteries?

The reason why I am asking is because I got the Opteka battery grip, and while I like it, I also just want to figure out what is wrong with the sensor cleaning and battery low problem.

I am guessing that the center contact on the battery gives the camera information about the battery level and my battery tray for the opteka doesn't have a center contact for either battery. When I have to do a sensor cleaning, I have to put the battery into the camera and put the battery cover on.

my third party grip doesnt have the third contact (middle contact) and it works fine never had an error or misreporting of battery.

I'm using the Opteka Battery grip. I only recently started getting the battery low problem.

about 99% of the time, removing the batteries, then reinserting them worked fine.

Sorry, let me clarify again...

The camera battery indicator reports just fine during usage and while shooting. I am getting the expected number of shots for the rated battery capacity.

The problem comes up when I want to do a sensor cleaning. The camera will say the battery is too low to perform the sensor cleaning. My only remedy is to take the grip off, replace the battery cover, and put in the same battery that was in the grip, and then do the sensor cleaning process. Mind you I don't do this often, so I really don't mind. I just wanted to know for curiosity sake if that was what caused the problem and maybe look at a way to fix it.

So...for people with the original canon battery grip. Does your battery tray (at least on one of the battery bay) have the third contact?

I have the BG-E3 grip on my XTi. The battery tray has two contacts for both battery stations ... no third contact for either .... for what it is worth, the problem you mention has not occurred to me and I have had the camera for over a year ...

with the battery grip on, sensor cleaning works for you?

2 contacts for battery and tray.
4 contacts for tray and grip.
didn't clean the senor yet but when i click on sensor cleaning and press OK. The mirror goes up.

Sensor cleaning no problem with grip on; I have never removed my grip, it has been on since purchase. on January 31, 2007.
