anybody know if THIS (external link) is compatible with a Canon 300D?

Also is it any good? :D

Hard to say if that flash is compatible with the 300D without knowing its sync trigger voltage.

According to the listed cameras (after a bit of googling) and features it should be compatible, as for whether its any good, no idea personally, but (again from google) others seem happy with it at first glance at least.

Exactly. Just because a flash is compatible with a 20D or later model EOS camera does not mean that it will be compatible with a 300D or even a 10D, both of which require a sync trigger voltage of 6 volts or less. The 20D and later models support up to 250 volts.
