On the topic of things not missed, how about this:

Missing the shot because you forgot to cock the shutter?

Anyone else have that happen to them?

All the time, with my Minolta and AE-1! LOL

All this talk has made me decide to dust off my AE-1, get a roll of film , put on my 50
f/1.8 (the one that came with it) and go take some shots. The only difference is that I'll shoot in M instead of Auto. I hope I can find a battery for it.

Yep, that happened to me plenty of times. I think it's the reason my mom stopped using that camera when I was a kid. That and using a flash with a fixed sync speed of 1/60 but accidentally setting the camera to 1/30... not sure if anyone's ever done that but it leaves about a third of the picture really dark. I know for a fact the Pentax K1000 shutter moves vertically :)

The shutter being slower than max synch speed is never an issue!!! The problem is if you set 1/125 on the shutter.

Yes, I got that backward. Thanks for pointing it out. I guess I should review the EXIF data for the K1000 more closely . Or think before I post. One of the two.

On an AE-1, I don't think so.

I am talking a spring actuated shutter, with a lever on the lens that you would pull down which would put tension on a spring, which would power the mechanism to open and close the shutter when you pressed the button.

I think that the AE-1 was past that.

I am talking about an Argus. Circa 1940.

I actually miss the shutter sound of my first SLR (not too long ago) Nikon D50.

My first SLR was a manual-everything with screw on lenses. The only thing I miss about it was that the battery lasted for years.

The sound of the Motor Drive MA ripping through expensive film... The novelty of Data Back A. The smell of fixer. Tri-X. Lith film. Selenium toner.

My first was a Canon A1 and that I don't miss but I do miss the rugged build on my Nikon F4. That thing was a tank!
