Which would be best?

Hi, Hope someone will be kind enough answer this question for me.

I am looking at buying a Pro Spec Canon camera which would be used for Portrait/Wedding, Landsape, Wildlife and Sports photography. Which of these camera's would be the best all round option 5D, 1D MarkIII or 1DS MarkIII.

Out of your three options I would say the 1DmkIII.

I would go for the 5D and a more well rounded lens lineup, which can be bought with the cash saved instead of buying the 1DmkIII.

i'd say 5D or even the awaited mK II if you can wait.

For about the price of a 1DsIII, you could have 2 x 5D for weddings/portraits + 1 x 1DIII for sports/wildlife. Then spend as much on lenses, tripods, and lighting, and you'd be set - call it $16k all up.

I’d go for the 1D MkIII and the 5D and skip the 1Ds. Your gonna want two bodies anyway.

well you need two of everything so I would say 2 x 5D, 2X 580EX, 16-35, 24-80, 70-200 f/2.8IS

$9000 to start.

I suggest you take a really good look at the 1D3. If someone says that it is not a good choice for any of your needs just keep in mind that a lot of pros in all those areas have used and do use Nikons which have smaller and not as advanced sensors as the 1D3.

The "best" camera in my view would the 1DSMkIII. It is full frame, 21MP, has the same AF as the 1DMkIII, and can shoot at 5 frames per second. I would then look at the 1DMkIII and then the 5D. This obviously assumes an unlimited budget. I suspect that you budget is limited (allthough I could be wrong) which means that you need to consider the cost of the camera vs. its performance. In this case you wpuld probably be better off with either the 5D or 1DMkIII plus glass depending on your budget.

All three cameras are capable of taking very high quality shots....

The 5D is a perfect wedding camera. High quality, excellent high ISO performance, enough MP to do anything you need, light weight enough to carry around all weekend long.

A 1DsMkII or MkIII is overkill in the MP department. More computer processing power required for editing, more storage needed for image storage and archives, etc. And to boot, its heavy to carry around all weekend with a L lens on it compares to the 5D, and at a substantial price in increase.

I am a firm believer to get the right tool for the job. A 1DsMkIII is a very nice camera, but a 5D is better matched for a wedding and event camera. And with the savings, you can better outfit your lighting, lenses, wireless, and computer.

i actually think the d3 would be great for all the things listed, were it not for the price tag and the fact it's only 6mp in dx mode... and nikon lenses are generally 10-20% more expensive for the same thing. 1dmkiii is great though, it'll take care of wildlife and sports pretty well, but 5d+40d is more affordable, and you'll be able to make the most out of each lens purchase (17-40 on 5d is a great wide angle and really goo walkaround length on a 40d, 70-200 is great for portraits on a 5d and awesome for wildlife and sports on 40d, etc)

I think you should get a 450D XSi

or 1D MIII

Certainly worth a look at. As for myself, at this age, condition and non-pro requirements, I'm not wanting to haul around more than one DSLR. In my younger days I routinely carried three 35mm SLRs and a bag of lenses, etc. Maybe if I were willing to carry two DSLRs I would seriously consider your suggestion. I will say this, I found my 20D very uncomfortable without a BG. How much putting BGs on the 5D and 40D would add to weight and cost may be a consideration for some.

If I could only choose one, 1dsmk3 will satisfy all the requirements. 5d wouln't be good for sports/wildlife. 1dsmk3 gives you higher pixel density of 1.6x crop cameras for sports/wildlife use and at same time fills the need of wedding/portait with better AF and faster fps than 5d.
