With the recent shocking rise in fuel (petrol/gas) costs at the pumps :(, just really curious as to what people are paying in the various parts of the world per Litre/Gallon. There are one or two sites offering similar comparisons but they only cover europe and a way out of date.

Are the UK's prices really as bad as we think? (I have a sneaking suspicion they are!)

Maybe you could quote Petrol and Diesel prices, so I'll start the ball rolling....

Locally petrol is 110p per litre (= £4.90 per gallon)

Diesel is 120p per litre (= £5.35 per gallon)

(to convert Litres to gallons I'm multiplying by 4.454)

Currently in the UK the cost of a litre of fuel (petrol) is roughly made up as follows:-

Product = 33 pence
Retailer = 9 pence
Duty = 51 pence
VAT = 17 pence (Yes, in the UK we pay VAT on t5op of the Duty!!)

Total 110 pence per litre.

How much is that in USD or AUD? :p

I paid $1.51/litre a couple of days ago, and that's Australian dollars.

£4.90 is around $10 USD.

Ours went up to $3.47/gallon yesterday. We don't have a lot to complain about. Our friends in other parts of the world pay more than twice what we do.

I paid $4.39/gallon for Diesel last night in Annapolis, Md, USA. If it gets much higher, I won't be able to afford to go to work.

TeeJay,
Hmm.... isn't there 3.78 liters per gallon? ???
We pay $3.65 a gallon here now for cheap gas :(

This will end up affecting cost of all photography equipment because you need fuel to deliver / disperse :(

If I remember correctly, the conversion factor for liters to gallons was ~3.78. 4.454 is the conversion factor for Imperial Gallons which is equivalent to about 1.2 Gallons U.S.

Be careful with the difference between the different gallons.

1 US gallon = 3.79 litres
1 imperial (UK gallon) = 4.54 litres

OK, to make sense of all this (and using TJ's UK prices):

In the UK:

Petrol: £1.10 per litre
Diesel: £1.20 per litre

If you convert that to US gallons & dollars (£1=$1.99)

Petrol: $8.30 per US gallon!
Diesel: $9.03 per US gallon!

So we are paying more than double US prices (so they should stop moaning about "high gas prices" ;-)a )

(Jim, in Oz looks like you are paying £0.70 per litre, or alternatively we are paying the equivalent of AUD2.39 per litre in the UK)

Well were on £1.09 litre for petrol and £1.19 litre for diesel, which is £5.40 a gallon. Thats an imperial gallon which is 4.54lt, unlike the US gallon which as John says 3.78lts.
So equivalent uk price per us gallon is about $9, which is a rip!!
