Just so long as you're happy with the final product, that's all that counts.

Most folks out there are not as proficient with PS PP work as you and many of the people on this board. That's where you made out, and were fortunate enough to have the necessary expertise as well as a cooperative photographer cut you the deal he did.

But a lot of people don't realize all the expertise and knowledge that goes into fine PP work, and try save a few bucks just to turn out some fair-to-midlin' final images that will be the best they can ever produce. True they saved some money, but they never got the best out their files because it's not something they do everyday.

Lulu's pricing is sure attractive - so these are litho images on gloss magazine stock and not lab prints?

The photographer gave me all RAW files, and we did our books through lulu.com. No leatherbinding, but that's not important to us. We wanted a fun/nice book, not a traditional 'album'.

Its true, they're not lab, but we printed the parent books first so I could see how the colors truly came out before we trusted them with our album. Hooray for using our parents as guinea pigs. :D

Not only did this require knowledge of PP, but also graphic design and layout, as I compiled the whole thing in inDesign and sent them a finished PDF with everything embedded in it. I spent a couple years majoring in graphic design before I left school, so i felt pretty confident in the whole process. Its definitely not something I would suggest to someone without a strong background in both PP and layout/design

Actually, if I had to do it over again, I may have just had the photographer do it all, lol. I got to experience my first WIFE AGGRO during the process of putting this together.
