I'm at 7, but I skipped 6. You can pay other people to print your photos on printers that cost more than my entire gear bag. And you can even tell them to make no adjustments!

I'm definitely at stage 2, but I think I went through stage 4 first.

Eventually you will reach a point where you have both the best gear AND the ability to get the most out of it and you find that you don't have the time to surf the net anymore. Time is money and you no longer are entertained by the n00bs.

You rarely find truly successful people posting on internet forums unless they have purposely throttled back their work or have delegated it to subordinates.

I made it through to step 7 six months after holding my first SLR. Although I do think my pictures now are far superior to my p&s days!

Stage 3. Been there, done that and seen the movie LOL
I would say I'm at stage 7. Still a long way to go before I can even think of or would want to sell images.

Yeah, seven should never be a phase but rather a constant. Otherwise, I'm on eight I guess, dreaming of nine...

The OP made me LOL. This progression of stages is right on the money! Stage 3 described me to a 'T' :D Now, I'd like to think I'm at stage 7, but I skipped stage 6.

I'm quite happy at an 8.5, I'm booked solid with sports from Sept-June (1-2 games a day, 6 days a week) along with some other small jobs and I realize that it will never replace the income from my full time job.
I've had the itch to want to spend a year or two learning weddings but then I ask myself "Do I really want to deal with the mother of the bride?"

I flit between 9 (non-photo job, renovations, children) and 7 (when I get chance to shoot I obsess about image quality).
