I have an SD630 that I use as a go-to camera when I need a quick shot, or if I need to shoot video. The 630 is compact and has just the right amount of usability for what its needed for.

However, in reading the threads on the G9, it appears to be a P&S with more capability as well as better IQ.

The question in my mind is...what is the real life size difference between the two?

If someone has an SD630-sized camera as well as a G9, is it possible to take some shots side by side, so I can see the difference?

Thanks!

No actual pictures, but I drew accurate boxes in AutoCAD for comparison.

If you are like me, and are used to carrying an SD around in your front pocket, you'll be very disappointed with the G9 size, but if you can carry it in a bag, around your neck, or on a belt pouch, (or just in your hand) the G9 has much better control and results than the SDs.

I have my SD either in a belt pouch or on a neck lanyard, and based on the drawing, the larger size appears to be within the limits of what I had in mind.

I'd say go for it, then. Size is the only, only thing with the G9 (again, from the perspective of moving up from an SD, as opposed to down from a DSLR).

Also, the battery life is greater in the G9, as is zoom, controls, adaptability (get Richard's grip and the lensmate lenshood). I'm starting to look at external flashes, as well. All accessories on for family gatherings, off when I want to walk about. I can't speak to Pro use, because I am only a hobbyist.

Good luck and enjoy.
