I planning to get the Canon 580EX Flash. Any opinions from members who own one?

After using the Sigma 500 Super DG with my 20D, the 580ex is an improvement. It is so easy to operate and I like the results better. I think the exposures are more consistent. It also recycles much faster than both the Sigma and Canon 550EX.

Don't get me wrong, the Sigma is a great flash, but the nice little package and features of the 580EX are elegant compared to other flashes.

The 580EX is a lovely toy. I really like it apart from the God-awful battery compartment door. Why does Canon insist on using that design for all it's flashes? What can be so difficult about designing a door?

Oops... sorry, went off on one there

I just ordered one (couldn't help myself with the sale price from Dell). I'll let you know when mine arrives and I've tested it. Then we'll see which goes up for sale of the three I will have: 420, 550, and 580. :P

I too just ordered one from Dell. That price is great! But I think they are back ordered.

I agree with Cadwell on the battery door...seems like its going to break when you open it(a pathetic design). The flash is ok but still inconsistent......not a great improvement over the 550's. I use it on 20D's and 10D's.
