Well I think you all have seen these pictures before, but it finally found its way to the newsstands. They actually redesigned the look of the magazine in this issue, using my feature as a template and i think Clint Davis (Soniczoom) did an amazing job with it. So mucho props to him.

I did a mini internship with a car photographer who got his work into national magazines but he never really told me how I could get my work into magazines. How did you get your start?

Thanks for sharing, and fantastic photos.

Yeah, I mean it's kind of hard to teach networking and luck. haha
Essentially I always had a few good friends around the nation from message boards that I shared pictures with and they offered critiques and such. It just to happens that a lot of them shot for Tunerzine.com. The owner of Tunerzine is Jason Siu, who used to be the staff photographer for all three Modified magazines. He hooked me up with my Modified and Modified Mustangs contact. Additionally, two of the other guys that I talked to, Luke Munnell and Clint Davis got jobs with Primedia. Luke is the Tech Editor for Import Tuner and Clint Davis has been the Art Director for Import Tuner, Turbo, Honda Tuning, and Car Audio. There was no sign for me that this was going to happen, so that's why it just takes a little luck.

Despite all that though, it is very possible to get into mags by just emailing some sample work or emailing a full shoot with watermarked web res versions and a mod list asking if they think the car has what it takes to get into the magazine. You just have to be persistent. These guy are usually really busy and a lot of the times you may not receive an email back.

Don't know if I have one consistent lighting technique. As with any shoot, its a lot of testing and correcting. I normally have the lights about 10 feet in the air though, one aiming at the rear wheel, one at the front wheel, and one on the front. Everything is subject to change though, depending on what I see when I chimp or check the histogram.

Thank you so much for sharing that very helpful piece of information. I have a contact inside the business that gets me press passes for import race events, including Nopi and D1 Grand Prix. I will just have to see where he can take me.

thanks again,
Kris Snow

No problem. Keep at it and I'm sure you'll have success. We were all at the point you are at right now at one time, and it just takes a little determination to get where you want to go.
