Can anyone point me in the right direct for a cheap but decent one of these that they have experiance with that I can get in UK?

There is no way I am paying for the canon one which is way overpriced!

I realise there are better off camera methods but they are all too expensive for me yet. If in the future I see myself getting more into flash photography I will consider these but for now I just want a cheap method.

TA :D

Oh is the PC cord and adapter method a better option? I was under the impression it just synced the flash and did not exchange e-ttl info. Am I right?

I am getting the Canon OC-E3 myself - still waiting for it - I only paid £23.17 for it so don't mind the wait :) - so I can't recommend anything else...

As far as your PC cord and adapter method is concerned, then you are correct it only syncs the flash, no e-ttl, thus you would need a light meter to get the exposure right (or you can chimp by trial and error).

The only way to use e-ttl is either the off shoe camera cord, or using an e-ttl master flash or the ST-E2 transmitter to control the remote slave e-ttl flash.

Best regards,

Anton

Just what I needed to know thanks :)

Do you mind telling me where you are getting it from?

I got it from Insight UK. They had a special offer end of March where with a code (MAR2) you got £10 off each order (pre VAT thus actually £11.75 off each order) and because I work at the University of Cambridge I get free delivery as well so that made it that cheap... The voucher code is expired now I am afraid so unless you can find a new one you would have to pay the full price which is £34.92 inc. VAT. :( The direct link to the OC-E3 on the Insight website is:

Best regards,

Anton

The cord from Insight is showing as £46.99 including VAT now. :-(

I am looking for a cheaper alternative to the OC-E3 at the moment. I did read that someone on here got a cheap one on eBay from Poland, but I can't find any current listings.

I have read that some of the non-Canon off-camera cords aren't much good, but there are some good ones about, so could anyone recommend a particular brand that is both cheap and usable?

What about these ones? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk …ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (external link)

Thanks

Mike

There was only one but if you see this one again then get it. I found it too be good quality and does a perfect job!

Thanks for that. I'll look out in case they list another one. Was there a make on the box, just in case it's available through a different seller?

That one looks like the genuine canon, Ide be keen to see a side by side comparison.

I just odered one of these for $34 including shipping to Canada. http://cgi.ebay.com …Q_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262 (external link)

I really like the lever lock and the metal shoe. It looks EXACTLY like an authentic Canaon OC-E3.

I noticed that some of the Canon's say Made in China and some say made in Japan. Maybe these "Yongnuo's" are made in the same Chinese factory?

Those are the ones I was looking at originally, Mike. Is one of those plug photographs of the unofficial cord? That's a bit naughty if they have Canon printed on the copies!

No, those two on the bottom are authentic Canon OC-E3's that I copied from Ebay ads. The prices seemed to reflect that were authentic Canon and that is where I came to the conclusion that Canon must make them in China and Japan.

There is a chance that they are "Fakes", like Gucci handbags, but then I think they would have said "Made in Japan" in that case.

The one I bought clearly says "Yongnu" where the real thing says "Canon".

Okay, thanks. I did wonder! Some items such as lens caps and hoods I have noticed have 'for Canon' on them, which I suppose is true, even though they use the Canon lettering!
