Metering - what do you recommend for portraits/glamour shoots?

Just wondering if members can give me the reasons for using the different metering modes.I am using evaluative ( solid dot & rectangle icon) for portraits & glamour & find everything ok.

WHat do members use & do things change when shooting landscapes,using a flash etc.

What are the advantages of the different modes?

Get a gray card and meter it for continuous lighting, or use an incident flash meter for strobes. To do otherwise is merely amateurish workarounds

When in a controlled environment like a studio, it is probably a better idea to shoot in manual mode. Either shoot a few disposable frame to use the camera's meter to figure out the best shutter/aperture/ISO settings, or use a light meter to do the same. Then you can shoot and not worry about the exposure changing for each shot. Otherwise you will likely face photographs where from frame-to-frame the light intensity is changing.

Landscapes with a flash are usually impractical due to the size of the land.
