Thought I would shoot something different today, I went to the horse trials at Perth. It was different from the motorbikes I usually shoot but no less dangerous.

holy crimany! .. ok.. I can't stand the suspense... post your website address.
Did the rider survive that? Looks like the horse probably did.. but geesh, looks like the rider might have gotten flattened.

great action sequence,
but a bit sick unless the rider and horse survived.

i would request more information be posted with sets like this as i have a lot of friends that do 3 day eventing.

and now you've got me worried as it is also Badminton this weekend and i have mates competing.

btw William Fox-Pitt, Zara Phillips, Mary King and i had a great discussion one night about motorbikes versus horses and how dangerous each one is.

we decided on horses, as they have a mind of their own.

Oh hey.. I also meant to say what fantastic shots you've captured. .. see how good they were?... I was *there* > caught up in the action! .. but even so.. I hope they both survived.

I agree with you there, there are several photos going around the internet of riders during/just after rotational falls like this or other where they didn't walk away or even survive. To me, that's just a little bit too disrespectful. I also have friends who compete in all spheres of EQ and I would hate to see a sequence of their final moments.

That's one hell of a rotational fall. Was the rider ok? I'm guessing horse walked off fine but rider had to at least have an ambulance.

Muddling through with a 350D kit (Formally known as Arsene), 50mm f1.8 and a little bit o' luck.

The horse got up and ran away, the rider needed medical treatment but she walked into the ambulance. She was holding her arm which I suspect may have been broken. I would not post pictures of any event where someone was seriously injured.

Photographically the shots are good, but why does everybody worry about the rider? She had the choice to ride or not. The poor horse had no choice.

Good series! You Scot's are tough! No break-away jumps for you! :D
Bad news: They need to expand the sand pit for the "riders".
Good news: If she'd hit the pit, the horse would have been completely on top of her.
