Hope this is the right place to post this.

Tomorrow morning they are closing down one of our main streets right down the street from me to transport the yc 15 aircraft, im not sure what it looks like but im sure it will be pretty cool seeing it go down the street. Would this be something I should try and get pics of?

Can't imagine why they'd be moving one but I'd make an effort to shoot something like you described.

Is Lancaster near Mojave? They might be moving one out of desert storage to ship it somewhere.

The "Y" designation traditionally relates to test aircraft so I wonder if maybe a YC15 airframe is going to a museum somewhere... Dunno...

Would love to see some pics when they're done please? :)

Yes Lancaster is near Mojave but they are going the other way with it. I think its lockheed is where they are going with it.

If I am not mistaken Mojave is about 35 to 45 miles north on hwy 58 from Lancaster. Definitely would be a cool thing to see.

A little L goes a long way.

It could be going to the museum that is at lockheed. They do have quiet a few planes that are on display.

IIRC Lockheed was the prime contractor on the YC15 so that would make sense...

Actually McDonnel Douglas built the YC15 and Lockheed built the YC14...

The requirement for a medium-sized transport aircraft eventually led to today's C17 Globemaster III...

Yep...it would be a great thing to get pictures of....and if you are the only one doing so...you may be able to submit to the local paper for a story. ;)

Nope... The YC-14 was built by Boeing.

Here's one of the two YC-14s on display at AMARC at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, AZ

And here's the other at the Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson...

According to Wiki, both YC-15s were stored at AMARC and one was displayed at Pima for a time. One was restored to flight status in 1997 to evaluate new technology for advanced tactical transports. After an engine failed, it was deemed too expensive to repair and was returned to storage. Perhaps this one is being returned to AMARC.
