We have a growing number of *Fan clubs revolving around specific bodies.
I thought I'd make a collection of them, so we can find them and keep them organized (merge in new ones etc)

What's not to like I have the MkII and absolutely love it. Although the MkIII has been released, I don't see myself upgrading anytime soon after reading the reviews (not that there's anything wrong with it, but it just doesn't offer that much more to me). IMO, if you're looking for a pro FF body that yields superior results, anything in the 1Ds line will do.....and the original and MkII are complete bargains on the used circuit.

yay a first reply. Im glad you enjoy the camera. So many people have the 5D. Are there any other people out there

I just love how 1ds photographs take in every single little detail. And the sharpness is special. No longer do I have to use the sharpening tools on my photoshop. And this may sound weird.

But the shutter sound sounds so film like. Sharp and sting like.

Finally , place for 1ds owners ,

sold my mk3 and went FF . it is hard to use crop-body after FF ,
at least for me.
I love this camera . only one problem, I NEED bigger memory cards

I just picked up a 1ds I love the AF on the 1d's..And full frame too. I just missed having FF so I picked one of these up instead of a 5d. The only thing I miss from the 5d is the high ISO and the LCD..But I love using this with my 85L it is a match made in heaven..

It is quite funny how the LCD is so poor. It makes the pictures look terrible! but when you load them up they look great.

With all that good stuff inside I guess there wasn't enough room for a decent LCD. It's funny too when a client or bystander has a P&S with a beautiful display, just the opposite is true. When they load the picture it looks like crap.

I've delivered multiple jobs with the Ds3, one of them I printed 1/2 the frame up to 40"x48" and they totally wowed the clients and the artist I was collaborating with.

One thing learned from doing very colour sensitive fine art repro work - if you want the most accurate colour rendition and the least artifacts, use canon's own DPP for the raw conversion. I tried the much vaunted Capture One 4 and was greatly disappointed with it's inability to render accurate colour, particularly in the blues - plus the distracting artifacts even with sharpening turned off.

What about photoshop/lightroom?

Ahhh, its like coming home...

Got the Mk1 and the Mk3, gonna send the Mk1 to be infrared retrofixed. Just shot my first commision for the mk3 (which paid for it) am very happy. The only way to do A2 uninterpolated digitally which was a customer requirement as they had been using 5x4 drum scans until then.

Currently very happy, now just have to get used to all the new features, nice to be able to zoom in that far, do they use the preview image to generate the screen data?

I am enjoying my DsmkIII havn't been out to shoot much yet hopefully I will get some time soon...

I am a fairly new 1ds user. Its amazing how much better all the lense angles of view look on full frame too. You wouldnt believe it til youve used it. My only prob with mine at the moment is my battery life, but Im saving.

Trainboy: I haven't tried Lightroom so can't comment on it wrt 1Ds3. I was sent a copy of it as owner of the now defunct RSP when I was shooting the 5D. Lightroom and I didn't get along and I haven't thought about it since. One of these days when DPP's toy UI bugs me enough I may look for other solutions.

As for Photoshop/ACR, I'm running CS2 and don't think it's compatible with the 1Ds3 files - earlier comparisons of ACR vrs RSP on 5D files made me unhappy about RSP's demise but I can't comment about latest ACR for 1Ds3 files.

My battery life is really bad on my original battery. I recently brought a 3rd party battery and it works fine.

I think I may buy another one as they only have 4 left in stock.

Matt, where did you get the 3rd party battery from? is it for the ds3?
