1DS MkI owners unite!

Picked up a 1Ds for $525 a few weeks ago. Came with the box, charger, 3 batteries, and all the paperwork/discs. No firewire or straps but those I have laying around. Wanted a FF to see what it was all about and didn't want to go up to $1000 for a 1DsII or pay the same amount for a 5D as I wanted the 1Ds AF system.

Upon handling it I wasn't surprised by the weight as I have a 40D gripped but the 1Ds is still a little heavier. The two button system is a little wonky and coming from a 40D/Xti background, the menu system required reading the manual. I was expecting to see the wow factor right out of the gate but was surprisingly disappointed in the results of the pictures, RAW and Jpeg versions. Found this thread and read up on Color Matrix, Parameters and what they mean and produce as they are different from what I learned on the 40D as Picture Styles. Once I figured that out (and I'm still figuring it out) the results were amazing. The color rendition is spot on. I see it as this is what I saw with my eyes and how it felt to me when I took it.

In any event, I was planning on running the 1Ds with the 70-200F4 and the 40D with the 15-85. I felt it wasn't enough and I won't be using the 1Ds to its best. So I went out and found and bought a 40STM and a Sigma 24-60/2.8. Had to read up on the Sigma but once I was convinced it would be solid choice on a FF, I kicked down the $90 and $200 for it, respectively.

All in all, I am happy with the 1Ds and still getting used to it's settings and abilities. I agree that it is going to take some time to fully match up to the pictures I am seeing here on this thread but as with many journey's, one must take that first step.

@katiedaddy after the pickup did you do a reset to factory defaults?

Yes I did that but didn't fix the problem. I shipped the body to be looked at to 3rd party repair center so I am just hoping they don't charge me too much to fix it.

I'll have a bunch of new work in about a week and a half. Forgot my CF card reader at home.

Just out working at the edge of Cape Breton Highlands Park in Cape Breton, NS so there's lots of amazing landscape shots to be had.
