Having used a 6D a bit I say the 6D technically wins in everything except build quallity and the feeling in your hand/against your eye. It even wins at focusing in low light (when you only use the central point of course). But some some images from the older cameras just look more... film like compared to the new boys (especially colours of nature). Still love it, but I'd trade it in for a 6D any day (ISO 25k is cleaner than our 1250 :D).

Finally managed to get my Yongnou YN-568EX into working order. It works flawlessly with the 1Ds and with the Pixel King PRO triggers.

And a pic from tonight (ISO 1250)

Still in love with this old buddy. The other day I did a shoot for friends and I used both this and the Mark II. I did not use them often side by side so when pulling up the pictures in LR and applying the same preset to both the Classic had very strong yellow cast. It took a lot of playing around to tame it down but at the end I still liked the Mark II colors better. Maybe it is because I'm shooting the M II more and my eye got used to it I don't know. Then today it occurred to me that maybe it is the LR so I run a quick test in DPP. I am not very good at using DPP anymore but here is the result LR vs DPP side-by-side (left LR, right DPP). Let me know what you think. Do you use LR for processing raw from the Classic, if so do you have tricks which you are willing to share with us.
In my flickre there is a bigger resolution of the file altough not by much.

I have never posted here before, but I am still using a 1DS and this thread has been great to read. It is just incredible what you folks are doing with this camera. Untill I stumbled across this forum and this thread, I had no idea how much great work is still being done with these cameras. I have really enjoyed this thread.

Unless you really want the low noise/high ISO performance of the 5D3/6D/1DX (is the 1DS3 that great too? I'm not sure) or the newer camera capabilities (video, huge LCD, live view), the 1Ds is still a great camera. For $500-700 you get a fairly cheap full frame camera that was once Canon's flagship camera, yes, for the most part even the 6D has better specs, but if the 1.8" screen and ISO limits are not a problem, it's a fantastic camera, and the images look very different than what a modern camera produce, not sure what it is, but yes, sometimes the images are almost film-like. I don't really make money off my work, so I don't *need* to have the latest equipment, and for the same reason none of my gear pays itself off. I do plan to buy something that has better high ISO performance (6D, or maybe join the dark side and get a Df)

As long as you expose properly for the image at iso 400 or lower the 1ds series is as good as it gets for image quality. From the original 1ds to the mark III which I now have the image quality is unsurpassed even by the newer dslrs at the lower iso's.

Good point, it's not very forgiving in that regard, mine isn't too forgiving with the AE either (not sure if my AE metering is off, or if all 1Ds were like that).

How is the 1Ds3 with regards to noise at higher ISOs?

I have highlight tone priority set on mine so it tends to underexpose by 1/2 a stop, but after running the images through photoshop it's only a minor nuance at best to bring the shadows back while preserving the highlights.

The 1ds mIII compares favorably to the original 5d at iso 1600 and 3200. Maybe a 1/2 stop better but since I think those images look good I'm happy with them.
