I posted this in the Mark II group by mistake post is below

Hey guys, just picked up one of these last week, The plan was to get a 5D in the new year and get into FF then, but this deal came up and after going back and forth I had too buy it. The moment I looked into the Viewfinder all I could say was wow!!! It feels like I have 3d glasses on. When looking at the pic's of my kids on the computer, they just looked so vivid and pure. I am so happy with this purchase.

Big file sizes and a ittle slow to write to the card, but for the images it produces, I can live with it. Looks like my old faithful 40D will be sitting on the shelf for a litle while now.

btw for me at least the battery life is that bad, so far!!!!

Batteries can be bought for as low as 15.00 to 100 plus so there is a lot of choice in batteries .I've had good luck for over a year with the 15.00 ones but I always carry one of my canons just to be sure.
Have fun with your camera.

Just from listening to people on boards and what not, it seems the concenus was there is a shorter battery life, so today after say about 400-450 pic's the battery ran down, which is fine but with my 40D I could get 1000 pic's easy. I know what I was getting into so I'm fine with that, I have two batteries and there is a fast charge time , I will be looking at other 3rd party spares

Thanks

Mark

It depends a lot of temperature around :) At my summer trip to Croatia (about 35C of constatnt heat, sometimes even higher) I could take over 500 pics with batteries that usually last for 300 pics in normal temp. Just wonder what will be the count in the winter.

Nice to hear that You've joined our group - 1Ds is amazing gear.

Hey guys, here is one of my first real shots with this baby, everytime I look through the viewfinder it takes my breath away. I do have a small nitpic though, is it me or is the LCD not that great, I guess compared to my 40D, the Images in the preview don't seem that bright, is that normal ?

Love this camera though

Hi Mark,

At first I was also spoiled by the glorious LCD screens on my past bodies, but I quickly learn how to read the histogram and it's so much better. I don't have to zoom in on the picture, just a quick click of the wheel to see the graph and that's it.
