Thanks Dan, yeah your absolutly right. I was doing that exact same thing this weekend and I'm slowing getting used to it. Yeah I have totally been spolied by the bigger and brighter screens from my 40D. If anything this will make me a better photographer, I guess.

Thanks

The thing I love about this camera is the way I can almost guarantee sharpness - it hardly ever misfocuses and almost always nails it. So I find myself less and less concerned about that, which indeed makes you a better photographer becasue you concentrate on making the picture a good one. Excellent sharpness is the norm.

On other cameras I've had it's been hit and miss. If I'm outside with decent light, I can zoom in to 200% and it's as clear as a bell.

Yep, once you get used to the buttons + clicking then it's all a breeze. From the graphs you can determine your next settings right away and make the necessary adjustments on the fly.

I came from an XSi and a 50D prior to the 1Ds and now I don't even think about missing the nicer LCD. I'd rather wait until I get home and upload the images onto a much bigger and nicer computer monitor :D

agreed. That is one of the major advantages I explain to folks when they ask about one series bodies. I actually shoot far fewer frames now that I have all one series. Before with the 20D and 50D bodies, I shot a lot because the keeper rate simply was not high enough.

Thats what I've been seeing on Saturday, when I took the pic's of my friend Tanya, out of the 150 shots I took, there might have been maybe 5-10 not so good ones and the bad ones where cause the shutter shot two shots by accident :) . I'll take that rate anyday

So after a week or so here are my findings

Battery life is pretty good actually, I was able to get 450-500 shots before the low battery indicater came on, I can live with that, since I have an extra battery.
- ISO 100-400 is nice anything above that not great
- AF is rock solid it locks in fast, I don't think I've taken a blurry picture yet
- I work out and I'm pretty strong, but this baby is heavy, the first few days my wrist was tired!! really
- All pic's that I view on my computer , look amazing , I spend a let less on PP now
- the rear lcd is pretty dim, however it's forced me to use the histogram, which isn't a bad thing

As much as I love this cam, for now the 40D will be my money cam, I am doing a baptism this weekend and for peace of mind the 40D will be the main, now once we get outside I'll use the 1D for the family portriats. I can't chance the 1D for the church shots in the dim lights.

^ Try practice using your flash indoors. I was amazed at the quality at low ISO when I was doing some random snapping at night with little light.

I have a 580EX that I'll play around with when I'm indoors. Still looking for a good diffuser for it though, almost bought a Gary Fong light sphere.

Well, 1Ds is not that bad at high ISO :) The noise becomes really annoying if You underexpose shot, but if You can expose it right just at the shot it will look not that bad, just go and try (IHMO there is quite acceptable noise with anything under ISO1000).

In dim scenes I shot mostly with ISO640 and off shoe flash (if possible) triggered by radio.

In static scenes, You can allways try ETTR trick :)

I can't believe this camera in mint condition will go for under $1K today.

A couple of Blue Angels from last week, this thing will very rarely miss in AI-Servo mode in situations like this. Frame rate is slow and buffer is small but the one it manages to capture, AF is always dead on. I'll keep shooting this thing until it breaks apart one day. Good stuff.
