Shutter count is listed @ 80,000 clicks. Great price for a great camera. I love mine.

I might have to raid my bank account, I'm only $250 off anyway. Does anyone know what the shutter is rated for? My guess is about 200,000

150,000 clicks from what I've been able to dig up. So there's still some life left in there!

One might almost say, sell your XTi to get a 28-75/2.8 for it after. ;)

Funny you should say that...it sold locally less than three hours ago. That was part of the gear I needed to sell. ;)

I just bought my very own 1ds two days ago! It was on sale via local craigslist for $500, and I said to myself if it was still for sale by the end of the week I'd take it. Well it was! The person I bought it from said it only had a shutter count of 7500 but when I checked using camerashuttercount.com it showed up as 9750, still pretty awesome if you ask me. The only catch was that it did not come with a charger :( but I've got the AC adapter coming in next week so for awhile it'll be a studio queen. I'm really excited to finally shoot full frame! The beautiful viewfinder and the fact that lens focal lengths are correct made it already worthwhile. Here's a test shot with a 28-135:

^ I made the same upgrade as you... from the 450D to the 1Ds. The viewfinder was the first difference I noticed. Isn't it great that you don't have to squint anymore?

And for $500? That's a pretty smokin' deal!!! What'd the Charger run you if you don't mind me asking? I've heard that it's stupidly expensive?

Actually I haven't bought the charger yet, just the AC and DC cable to connect the camera to a wall socket. Chargers are way too expensive. New is something like $400, and used from ebay is around $100. I considered buying an el cheapo battery ($20) with the el cheapo 90 min charger ($60) but then realized I was $20 away from the real deal.

I would have loved getting the deal you got, as I already have the charger from my 1D. Maybe if I buy the one off of FM, I will sell you the one from him if you're interested. Official Canon is always better anyway! ;)

That would be more than welcome on my part! Having come from consumer/prosumer cameras, I'm still trying to figure out all the bells and whistles with this guy. I'm finding that a lot of the functions are outdated (holding down menu buttons, holding down 2 buttons etc) but luckily I'm a lover of older tech and it doesn't hinder me at all. I didn't buy this camera to press buttons :D and if I did now I get to press more buttons!

That's where I have the advantage! My 1Dinosaur has trained me well in the art of button pressing. And I too, love older technology. Your photo looks great by the way.

I forgot to say that this camera came with a 50mm 1.8 mk.II and when I turned the camera on for the first time to test auto-focus, oh my, I was blown away. I literally did a double take; the speed of the crappy motor driven AF feels as though it's on par with USM lenses on my other bodies! I had previously thought that all lenses behaved the same no matter what body, boy was I (pleasantly) wrong.

Actually I've always wanted a 1D classic. That CCD is irreplaceable! and thanks for the compliment!

Hhahaha.

it seems a LOT of people here moan and groan about the nifty 50. using three different 1D bodies, and a 7D, it has ALWAYS focused FAST. no, NOT 70-200 IS2 fast. but really fast for a hundred dollar lens.

I am considering selling my 1Ds. I want something newer, and not so.... operationally sluggish....
