I thought when after I had installed programs for my 1D Mark II that when it told me I needed an update that it was a driver for vista so now I'll have to see if there is one on the web since canon does not have one for the 1Ds model for vista.
So thanks you also had confirmed what I thought might the problem

Unfortunately, there are no Vista drivers for the 1DS.

Lawrence

This would be a classic case of 'forced obsolescence', which is inevitable with electronics. As an additional piece of info, the new Tamron 28-300 VC lens doesn't work with the 1Ds either, and there might be a couple of Sigma lenses where the OS might not work...for those who are interested in using such combinations.

This has never really worried me since I've never been interested in the Tamron, and the only Sigma OS lenses I have interest in are really the telezoom lenses, which I'd probably combine with a newer crop camera for wildlife shoots.

I got it working using windows compatibility mode to make it think that it was XP w/sp3 and then finding all the exe that needed to be adjusted to thinks so
So thanks for pointing me in the right direction and yes it is always good to know what works and what wont with older tech toys

Had to add that I have the Tokina AT-X 124 (12-24 f/4) and it works great on this camera and even at the 15 setting is more than wide enough ,I thought loosing those extra clicks would take away from the wide angle but I forgot it is a full size and not a crop one and my little nifty 50 likes it also and it is very fast at focusing and does not search as much as on my 30d or 50d

Sounds good. Do you have any photos with the Tokina at the 15mm setting? Just interested to know how much vignetting there is.

Tomorrow I'm going out and use it. The pics I took look like crap and were only for me to get a feel for much it how much it vignetted , But I could see one thing with a little cropping you could
use more if the need is there I'll try to show that tomorrow night and I also bought that focusing screen that is like the old ones in film cameras so that I can try using my bellows with a manual 135mm f 2.8 lens attach

I was thinking about buying a used 1d mark ii on ebay. I just bought a canon 17-40 f/4 and am needing to upgrade to a better body. Looking online iv'e seen some for around $1300 for picture counts around 10,000. Seem like a good idea? My other option was to go for a used 5d for $1300. Also on the picture counts, what is a number that is too high when buying a used camera. Thanks.

Just got back from the Botanica Gardens trying out the Tokina AT-X 124 (12-24 f/4) on it
on the second photo fWORD I forgot and had crop it and this one was at 19 and you could see in bright light the the very edge a little vignetting
and at 15 it was like those old scrapbooks where they would stick a black tip to hold the photo on if you have seen those it was like that but you could use the image with a crop and with no distortion from it also and at around 19 it look alot like it does on a crop sensor

Sorry, but I can't help with pricing since I don't stay in the US. 10K on the shutter sounds like a seldom-used camera, especially for something this old, which might be a good thing for you...it might have been somebody's backup camera. Also, you'll need to check about the general cosmetic condition plus the stuff it comes with. Some specimens might still need you to buy an eyecup, or a strap/ hand strap, additional batteries etc.

My eyes aren't all that sharp, and to be honest I wouldn't find the vignetting in those photos if I wasn't looking for it. It's a pleasant surprise to see that such a lens can be used to quite good effect on a FF camera. A while back I bought the Nikon 14-24mm plus a Nikon G-EOS adapter. It must be the best UWA lens I've ever seen, but given its specialist applications I've yet to find a good use for it. In the last few months I've had no chance to try it on wide landscape scenes or interiors.

Should I go for the 5d 12.8mp or the 1ds 11.1mp?

What do you think of this:
Canon EOS-1Ds 11.1MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)
$1099 used-very good
Includes 6 batteries PLUS the AC adapter(a must), body cap, battery charger, power Outlet, Only a slight scratch in bottom right of lcd screen but this is barely noticeable

This is on amazon right now. It's cheeper than the 5d's. My only concern is that they don't give you pictures of the cameras on amazon.
My other option would be a $1400 5d.
