Practicing my lighting. This was shot using a 430EX shooting through an umbrella to my right, a reflector on my left, and another 430EX behind me as a backlight. I was looking to create Rembrandt type lighting effect, not sure if I quite achieved it. Sorry the only subject I had to shoot was myself. One shot in color and same shot in B/W conversion. Please critique, thanks.

Thanks for the feedback, wish there were a few more opinions ???, not that you are incorrect because I believe you are right. Here is one more go at it...Self portraits are tough!

That's better for the look you were going for, that triangle of light is what you need for the Rembrandt look. Much nicer placement of the catchlights too in this new one.

Your edited version works well as rembrandt. Some will like a smaller light ratio better, but IHMO this ratio works well for me as long as the ratio doesn't get any larger. Rembrandt is more commonly used with low-key anyway.

I also like the split light in the first shot, especially the use of the smaller light ratio.

I think the shirt should not have been dark in such a high-key shot.
Excellent capture of detail in the lighted areas.

I've no comment on the B&W. I can't get into B&W.
