These rebates are clearly intended for retailers and not customers. This happens every year. What's the point in making a sticky thread for this stupid and ridiculous offer by Canon?

So... what you guys are saying is that amazon isn't gonna get any cheaper and the cheapest prices are at B&H?

I'm holding out to see what Beach does. They still have the price listed at 2750 without the rebate. Tomorrow we'll know if they're going to do the same thing as Amazon or not.

Canoga Camera (external link) is cheaper than B&H, as long as you don't live in California and have to pay tax.

Actually, the instant rebates have only been going on for a year or so. Before that it was mail in rebates...with big potential savings and even bigger headaches for a lot of folks.

They will all get cheaper.

Just making a fast buck off the guys that can't wait.

Just like the 40D, MkIII series, XSI--yadda yadda yadda--recent examples.

Taking the easy pickings--Then competition will kick in ;)

I agree with Dave. If you're not in a hurry (which unfortunately I am), wait it out a few weeks and see how things shake out. The rebates are running for 2 months, and over that time period I think at the very worst you'd still have B&H's $2599 price to fall back on (I doubt they'd increase their price from where it is), and at the very best some of these dealers might creep their prices downward once all the early rebate buyers have gotten their fill.

Haha, in time all bodies will get cheaper and glass will continue to increase. :(

At $2599 at Amazon, this camera is still a very good deal. Amazon has 30 day price protection and I'm guessing the price will be lower sometime during the next thirty days. If anyone is in the market for the 24-105 L, I'd suggest buying this kit but be patient because the price will likely go down even more, especially when Canon announces the 5D replacement. I'm waiting for that myself.

Actually I do live in California , I'm interested in the 40D. I guess the 30 day price protection thing will have to do...

One consideration in pricing is that retailers have existing stock that they've paid for. Amazon, for example, has existing stock of 5D's and perhaps Canon is asking them to "eat" the rebate. That may well explain the paltry reductions that have occurred so far. In fact, I don't think Amazon has actually reduced the price of any of the lenses included in the rebate program except to state that the rebate is included in the price.:(

Well, at least the price protection is policy is clearly written:
http://www.amazon.com …502&qid=1211155075&sr=1-1 (external link)

Post-Order Price Guarantee
Amazon.com's prices for released items will change from time to time based on a variety of factors. If Amazon.com's price for an already-released item decreases within 30 days after we ship the item to you, we'll be glad to refund the difference in price if you contact us within that 30-day period. Please click the Contact Us button on the right side of this page, and be sure to have your order number handy so we can assist you.

This Post-Order Price Guarantee is subject to the following restrictions:

Applies only to products that have already been released. Products that have not yet been released but that are available for pre-order from Amazon.com are not covered by this guarantee, but do benefit from our Pre-Order Price Protection program (see section above).
Applies only to items sold by Amazon.com, and not to items (or prices) offered by other sellers on our site.
Item prices that are affected by a promotion such as "Buy one, get one free" are not eligible, unless the same promotion is also offered at the lower price.
The price of an item after rebate is not considered to be the Amazon.com price.
Requests must be made within 30 days of the item's shipment date.
