i do have one question, because of the flash sink speed anytime i even attempted to use fill flash even with my iso at 100 fstop at 16 it was way wayyyy over exposed...should i just not use a fill flash and correct shadows in photoshop? thats what i did here.

Also does anyone have some technical advice as to how to do a team portrait? focus anything....unfortunetly the sun was too high in the sky to even possibly not have them looking into it

looks like maybe you pulled the shadows out a bit too much perhaps?? Seems to have lost some depth and blacks and a bit flat. I would have shifted the front row over so they are inbetween the the members of the team in the back row vs in directly in front. Also maybe the girls on the right are down on their right knees vs left.
overall though I like it.

EDIT: take this photo pop it in photoshop and hit AUTOLEVELS once.. you will see a HUGE difference and it will pop quiet a bit more. There is a fairly warm color cast on it currently.

Just as stated above, this was a done by just using auto-levels, and contrast. Then a just your shadows. Fix the color so it looks real and use the clone tool to clear out those wires, (i did not do the ones in the mountains) and the extra distractions on the side and between the last two people.

I have always found that with outside team photos you will always get a shadow or two, the wind will mess with someones hair and the sun with give someone that squinting glare.

I do like the background you choose. Neat idea.
