For the heck of it, I shot some RAW image files, this morning, and had pretty good success, as I seem to have enhanced what were otherwise nothing special photographs. It's a bit time consuming playing with the RAW converter tool but the final outcome was determined solely by myself.

The resulting TIFF files are 20.3 MB in size, so I'm not sure how much of this I will actually do as it's a storage hog. I certainly like how they look on the monitor but wonder about its practicality as I can knock off 16x20's from the Large Superfine JPEG setting with ease. I will say that this might be good for flash subjects since the standard JPEG images with flash are not great, IMHO.

Anyway, just another tool to make the G6 the most versatile camera I have ever used. :D

Until I got PS CS I had no idea how wonderful RAW could be. I'm not shooting anything else now.

Have fun
Paul

Would the limitations of a monitor really be fair to show such images?

As I have grown photographically, I find myself using RAW more and more. A while back ago, I had made an argument against RAW, but now with printing coming in to the picture, I've found that I can optimize my prints best by using RAW -> 16 bit TIFF -> JPG for printing. I still shoot most of my pics. in SuperFine JPG, but use RAW regularly when I see a potential for making a print.

I find that the Zoombrowser and Paintshop Pro's RAW converters to be lacking. Best for the G series seems to be the one in Breezebrowser. Haven't tried Photoshop RAW. Capture One's RAW converter does not read G series...how unfortunate.
