Wow great focus and sharpness Love the series.

Excellent shots! I hate to say it, especially being a Yorkshireman, but I'm not actually a cricket fan at all. Nevertheless, they are pretty damn good Gavin.

Nice clean set of pictures, like the wicket keepers eyes on the 7th picture.
Only comment would be, some of the whites are just that, may be just a bit to white.

I see that you are stopping down to f5.6 with the 1.4x on you 400. Is this to trade off background blur for sharper pictures?

khall... Yep, it's a tricky one with those whites, sometimes you have to overcook 'em a little just to get rid of shadows on the faces etc.

gaz... Good luck with the local paper cricket. You'll do an excellent job as you always do with the RL... just keep working the angles and you'll soon find the optimum spots.

Aust2000... It was indeed a 6 that hit the car! All's well that ends well though as the driver was OK after the initial shock. As for the 1.4x extender, I generally stop down a bit just to sharpen things up a little. Working at f/5.6 isn't a problem as cricket is generally played in pretty good light... also f/5.6 just buys me a couple of feet of DOF which is quite handy but not enough to affect the backgrounds significantly.

scotthayes... EXIF should be intact for all the images. Pics are shot with 400mm f/2.8 + 1.4x extender.

All the usual excellent stuff plus excitement! Always nice to see the Perfect Game through your lenses, Gavin. I was just recently asked for access to my one cricket match's images by the Santa Barbara Cricket Club after all this time. I am amazed to realize that I know exactly what a '6' is ... guess those tutorials never leave ones mind.

Have you put on the latest firmware? Seems to have been a big improvement but I still haven't shot a concert since installing it so I look forward to Thursday night's.

So, I've got a few bucks to burn ... anything new and interesting on the equipment front?

Another fine set of shots Gavin, one question do you pre focus or focus on the batsman , I sometime focus just in front of the batsman as he usually steps into the shot.
