A question. I have a Black Rapid RS1. Use it all the time, as well Tripod, Normally. I HATE-HATE-HATE that I must change the plate to use my tripod. I have read that manfrotto have a tripod plate with a d-ring. How safe is that? I have read on some forums that its not. So my question, is Is there any way to have a secure connection to the camera and still be able to have it on a tripod withut removing the damn plate everytime?

I'm looking for a solution to this issue as well - I've been using a home brew strap and I just picked up a tripod and I'm not liking the fact that I need to unscrew it all the time - for me, there's an unavoidable paranoia that lasts for about an hour every time I have to re-secure my camera to the strap - "is it tight? ... is it still tight? ...what about now?" Ugh.

One thing that I'm considering is using one of the points for the traditional camera strap to attach a D ring and then attach my rapid strap wannabe to it (another homebrewer did this and has photos). The only problem is that it's going to change the hanging orientation that I've become comfortable with...

Well I just bought the R-Strap last week after much debate and reading everything I could find on it.

The deciding factor was that I got the RS4 with the metal bracket FastenR for $18 brand new. Though I was really hoping for the RS1 because it seemed thinner and I don't really need the pocket accessory that the wider pad offers.

I haven't used it enough to see how it will fit in with my shooting and such, but I do leave for PR today and will be spending 5 days trying it out. (along with my new 40D, my new toky fisheye and a couple other new accessories.) So I guess you could say this holiday is a honeymoon jaunt for me and my camera gear. :)

A camera.
Trinkets galore.

Hrmm, finally took a look at this thread and this looks like a strap I might contemplate using. On the rare occasions I use a neck strap I end up connecting both sides to one of the strap loops on the camera via a carabiner, which does mostly the same thing, but it would be nice to have a strap that actually is fitted for that kind of use.

I'm considering purchasing this strap, although I'm slightly concerned (as many others seem to be) of the clasp opening and the camera dropping.

Have any of you DIY'ers or other crafty individuals considered a QR safety tether from the loop at the end of the strap to the (now unused) left neck strap eyelet?

I used a heavy spring style snap lock. There is no way I can see this thing opening up by anything on my clothing.

For the snap lock, I ordered the "Superloc" instead of your regular snap lock.
I was hoping this may be better, I will know when I get mine.. Thanks for the DIY.

In short, a high-tensile-strength, lightweight, abrasion-resistant material.

I want to try an RS4 but after seeing that disclaimer on their website, kinda of leary.

"Black Rapid Inc. is not responsible for any damage to equipment or injury that may be caused by the use of products sold by Black Rapid Inc. The buyer and/or user assumes all responsibility and risk with the purchase and/or use of any product from Black Rapid Inc. "

That's a pretty standard disclaimer that they hope will protect them from lawsuits. Everyone does it.

Still eerie to see though.

IS it not more or less standard non liability statment?
