Well.... after running business for large portion of my life I can tell you that the wording is bad looking even though the intended meaning is other. Makeing it sound like it doesn't back up the equipment.

IS it not more or less standard non liability statment?

(Sorry post over)

I don't see that on any other strap site (upstrap site which is one of rapidstrap's chief competitors (external link)). It definitely doesn't inspire confidence...especially with some of the known issues that have happened.

I'm *still* waiting for my new improved FastenR that I paid for and ordered months ago.

I'm waiting as well. Ordered back in October. I just read on their site that they had manufacturer issues and will take longer to get the new fastener.

As an FYI, I really liked the idea of the R-Strap but didn't want to spend the money. I made my own and then eventually bought the R-Strap because I just didn't like my DIY version.

I have used my R-strap on and off and for it's purpose, I'm happy with it. If I'm constantly shooting, I'll use either a handstrap or neckstrap wrapped around my wrist.

But over the weekend I was out looking for snakes and climbing up and down the hills. My 40D with 70-200 2.8 on R-Strap was perfect. Never came loose and I never felt like it wasn't solid. I know the fastener has caused some uproar but I think still it's a great product and the new fastener will make it perfect in my opinion.

I am probably wrong , I am no lawer or such, but I have read more than one time that the manufacturer was not responsible for the losses due to the use of their products, mostly because they had no control the way their product was used.

If that disclaimer scares you, read the manual for your water heater.

Under no circumstances is the manufacturer to be
held responsible for any water damage in connection
with this water heater.

Its pretty common for companies to put liability disclaimers on their products.

I want to try an RS4 but after seeing that disclaimer on their website, kinda of leary.

"Black Rapid Inc. is not responsible for any damage to equipment or injury that may be caused by the use of products sold by Black Rapid Inc. The buyer and/or user assumes all responsibility and risk with the purchase and/or use of any product from Black Rapid Inc. "

That's why it's smart to obtain no-fault insurance for your camera gear...anything can happen. Years ago I had the Rebel Xs (35mm). On my second outing with the Canon strap around my neck the retaining clip 'on the camera' broke and smash went the camera.

I use a RRS l-bracket on the body, then tie a bit of spectra to the loop on it's base... This gives me a connection for the r-strap w/o having anything in the way of the tripod clamp.

I ALSO have a bit of spectra through the top right lug on the body so if I take my L-bracket off I can still use the r-strap. The spectra I'm using is small enough to work w/o getting in the way but rated at a ton breaking strength. My only concern is chaffing, but I just check it every once in a while.

Can you show me a picture of this setup.

For those of you who aren't fans of the FastenR, here's an alternative solution:

I just got my new R-strap (RS-1) I'll be hanging my 40D with grip two batteries and my 70-200 2.8 is from the tripod ring. Just tell me I'll be safe as long as I use the little plastic gate on the snap swivel.

if you use the FastenR hardware that came with it, you should be fine.

exactly, my camera has come off 4 or 5 times now, when you twist the camera and the fastner twists in such a way it can pull down on the lever and unlatch itself, as i said happened to me 3 times in a row last year i dropped the camera from the shooting position to grab the 2nd camera quickly and the camera fell to the ground, lucky it was thick grass, then the other two times where on concrete, lucky it wasnt a great height (i was kneeling), now visiting their site they dont even show the new clips, not good.

overall i love the system and i like their new product to make use of two rapids although the guy with his blog showed how to do it for free.
