exactly, my camera has come off 4 or 5 times now, when you twist the camera and the fastner twists in such a way it can pull down on the lever and unlatch itself, as i said happened to me 3 times in a row last year i dropped the camera from the shooting position to grab the 2nd camera quickly and the camera fell to the ground, lucky it was thick grass, then the other two times where on concrete, lucky it wasnt a great height (i was kneeling), now visiting their site they dont even show the new clips, not good.

overall i love the system and i like their new product to make use of two rapids although the guy with his blog showed how to do it for free.

Did you use the little plastic gate that comes with it?

Here is a link to images and explanation of an easy DIY alternative to the FastenR attachment, for those cameras or grips (mostly Canon, I think) that have the strap attachment point in addition to the tripod socket on the camera bottom. The flat nylon tubular rope (think nylon shoelace) doesn't get in the way when shooting vertically. The carabiner is simple to unhook but won't come undone by itself, and the camera can be unhooked and set down without falling over.

A second longer loop of this same nylon tubular rope (with a second carabiner) can easily be used as a safety tether to attach to the normal strap attachment point if you are at all worried about hanging the camera by a single point. The large open carabiner will move easily on the webbing of your own design, or the R-Strap itself.

Michael, it's called a metal reducing loop. Strapworks.com Here's the link:

Works very well. I'm really happy with my frankensteined R-strap.

I got my R-Strap(RS-1) yesterday and have been looking at it and messing around with it .It looks safe to me as long as the plastic gate is used.

I personally never had an issue, but again with (at times) $2,500 worth of camera, lens, card, filter, L bracket, etc, I never wanted to test the waters.

I'm sure my contraption is overkill...but overkill is safe...and fun :)

I got mine from home depot. Maybe clay could pick up one for you as well. They were only a buck or two. I got some then using that rubber dip to make it less prone to scratching anything.
