Good job. That's a serious twist on number 1. I wouldn't want to be riding that one!

Nice series Kathryn!! They all look really good, well exposed, perfect focus and a wise choice of crops. Just watch out for the crooked horizons on 1-4 :-) .

# 2 & 6 are my favs.

What lens did you use? Prefocus or AI Servo?

Thanks! Those were taken with the 70-200 2.8 and Al Servo. I went out to get some practice in for a 3 day event I'll be shooting next month, wanted to make sure my timing and technique was down before I start trying to sell images to parents! I tried prefocusing on the jump for a while, but it wasn't working for me. I liked the results a lot better when I tracked the horse. I'm lucky to live only a ten minute drive from Spruce Meadows.

Love #1 for the action. 5 & 6 are just such perfect ponies doing everything correctly. Your exposure etc. are great on those also. Well done!

Great set. Looks like you had a nice overcast day. I have shot a few shows & know that the sun plays hell with the shadows from the helmets.

I also started pre-focusing on the jump only to move on to tracking the horse in AI Servo mode. Very nicely done.

Do you have to ask permission in order to shoot, and sell photos there?

You can shoot all you want from outside the ring. They don't have any restrictions on camera equipment. I'm not positive, but I think they have shooters selling already but you'd have to call or email them and find out. I never asked about selling, but did notice there were photogs in the both rings all day, so I suspect that's what they were doing. I was only doing it for practice for other shows that I have coming up that I'm the official photographer for.

I've been thinking about doing the same thing here in Ontario. I'm trying to figure everything out first. Keeping everything organized, and showing your work without giving it away, have to be the hardest parts.
