I am going to be shooting a wedding here soon and I am looking for something a bit on the wider end for some of the shots. I wanted to see some examples from the 16-35 on a crop body(20D equivalent) at the wide end. Thanks a bunch:D

Has anyone shot the lens on a body with a crop factor of 1.6x? if so, can you provide some images as well? I'm probably going to buy it regardless but couldn't hurt to see some pictures. =T

What are you planning on shooting with it? It's a sweet lens, but IMO it looses a bit of its luster on a 1.6x body, since its range is pretty short, and its not particularly wide and not particularly long. Personally for a 1.6x body I'd spring for a Canon 10-22 and a Canon 17-55 f/2.8 IS and kind of get the best of both worlds--nice IQ and usability. Just some thoughts!

is 16mm a dramatic step away from 18mm?

hmm, i was thinking about getting it to just have when i go to full frame but i dunno when that'll be and by that time there'll probly be L III or some other crazy new superwide lens. might just have to go for that ef-s 10-22mm. or just sell my sigma 18-50 and replace it with the L, really dunno now.

While you're probably always best served by buying what is best for you now since resale value is pretty good on lenses (especially if you're buying used), lenses don't get updated or replaced nearly as often as bodies. I have lenses in my bag that were designed 20 years ago (15mm fisheye)! The original 16-35 was never a great lens in most cases, so I think Canon knew it needed an updating. IMO they did a good job with the MK II version.
