I've only managed to photograph this little butterfly once before, and that was with a compact (S3) so I was pleased to catch this one this afternoon with my DSLR. I had an extra pair of eyes with me which helped enormously. They're incredibly difficult to find when at rest on leaves but this one was doing his macho bit, chasing off others that got near to his perch so was less difficult to spot.
I used a 70-210 F4 with a Canon 500D close up lens.
C&C appreciated.

Wonderful shots - really like #1 - think the rather bright areas add to the shot rather thyan detract :)

Very nice! I just got my 100mm Macro and I know what you mean about being hard following anything that flies around!

great stuff. the lighting on it is spot on and i agree with
LordV that the bright areas add to the 1st pic.

Thanks for the comments, all.
I had a bit of trouble with the first pic not displaying the deep green colour of the butterfly in shot one, instead showing it as a sort of dull khaki. I changed the RGB mode from Adobe in the original and uploaded it again and it's ok now.

Excellent. The back-lighting didn't harm the 1st shot at all.
