Atop my new Impact stands is a small thread that is the wrong size for my umbrella heads. This thread is on a knurled steel knob that looks like it might unscrew and give access to a larger threaded rod underneath, but I dont want to start twisting it unless I'm sure thats what it is.

So is there one under there or was I too stupid to not get all the parts I need?

Umbrella/swivel bracket is where an umbrella mounts. The knob on your stand is available as a method for putting a light directly on the stand, like an Alienbees strobe.
