first soccer pics with my new lens

I had a awesome time this sunday. It was a beautiful day and i had my camera with my monopod, french vanilla on the side, my shoes were off, siting on my chair that makes me nice and low. and there was a nice breeze. my nephew is in white... no editing here just resized and lowered quality for posting on here. i used my 70-200 2.8 IS which i love. shutter speed varies from 1600 to 1250. Ap at 2.8. iso 200. c and c please

Nicely composed. I really like how low you got....

The more I shoot and look at soccer images, the more I realise just how hard it is to get a truly 'WOW!' shot. They're all well composed, and well exposed and catch the action perfectly (just like these), but they're just missing that certain 'je ne sais pas' to make you catch your breath.

Any tips on ways around this? I could do with the help.

I think #2 shots would have been better if shooting position was bit to the right but that can be hard to judge before/when taking the shot.

Not bad composition. I think your white balance is off. The colors look too cold to me.

off how? the player in the white is wearing a green shirt underneath so maybe that is throwing it off?

i agree the white balance looks a little off, did you adjust the exposure at all?

no editing of any besides resizing.

The first shot is OK. It's really the second shot. Notice how the green uniform in the second shot is completely different from the green in the first shot. Also, look at the skins tones. The player's face is too blue. What white balance setting did you use? Auto or Daylight? When I photograph soccer, I either use an expos disc to set a custom white balance or I shoot with cloudy (even on sunny days). The canon auto white balance often looks too blue to me.

im just going to start doing soccer this year, but I just read in another forum someone's suggestion (apologies cant find it right now) but basically its all about the eyes. Getting eyes in the shot really makes the photo stand out.

That's a huge problem in youth soccer because they look down and stare at the ball 99% of the time, so eyes are going to be a hard thing to come by i think

Yeah, you pretty much need to be laying on the ground

As far as the colors go I think #2 just needs a levels adjustment
