Cruise is this monday and have no idea what equipment to bring. Dont want to haul around my bag all week. Im probably going to use my canon backpack for the trip since my shoulder bag would be a bit much I think for the plan trip or would it?

Im thinking 40D, 24-105 F/4 L, tokina 12-24 as definites. 70-200? I just got extra batteries for the 40D from sterlingtek so im good on that side. CPL will be going, but for a tripod? I have a dynatran tripod but it is a bit much to be hauling around for a while. Plus how would i bring it on the plane? I dont have the bag for it anymore. Would it be worth while to just pick up one of those P.O.S el cheapo tripods for the trip?

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've never brought a tripod on a cruise and there have only been a couple of times that I wished I had. In my experience, less is more on a cruise. I usually take a couple of turns around the boat to take whatever "boat" shots I want and then the camera stays in the bag until we go ashore. Most shore excursions are not designed for photography, but if you're going to go off on a wander by yourself (not an organized shore excursion) you may be able to get some good shots. Most of the time you spend on shore will be mid-day so not good light for photography. If you just want to capture vacation memories (snapshots) a point and shoot may be a good option. I finally broke down and bought one after my last cruise when I got tired of carrying around the DSLR and not having the opportunity to take the kind of photos that I wanted to.
